POFD 6  &  SPOFR

FIRE DISTRICT MERGER APPROVED BY VOTERS!

Pend Oreille County Fire District 6 was established in 1991.  The district operated out of a single fire station located in Furport until 2017.  With the purchase of land at Kookum Rendezvus RV Resort, a second station was constructed to service the northern portion of the district.  Furport Station features equipment bays, large meeting room, kitchen, and outdoor rest area.  Volunteer firefighters from the station respond to fire and medical emergencies with a fire engine, brush truck, water tender and an emergency vehicle. Captain JD allison leads a team of six volunteers who respond from this station.  Skookum Station firefighters respond to fires and mediacal emergencies with a fire engine, brush truck and water tender.  Battalion Chief Scott Doughty leads the team of six volunteers.  The district has an excellent relationship with the Kalispel Fire Department to the north and the Pend Oreille Paramedics to the south.

ABOUT US

Pend Oreille Fire District 6 and South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue merged at the end of 2019 with strong community support.  Under the direction of SPOFR Fire Chief Mike Nokes, Furport and Skookum personnel continue to serve the Fire District 6 area.  The merger was a way of improving access to paid staff while providing more assets to district members in order to serve the community better.  The merger brings forth a way to help control costs by the reduction of duplication in services like administration and more.
